The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with ESOL and Reading Endorsement provides the professional preparation necessary to teach grades K through 6, as well as the coursework necessary to earn the ESOL and Reading endorsements. State of Florida certification requirements are met through coursework, field experiences, and student teaching. The program is designed to bridge theory and practice by engaging the student candidate in field experiences and one semester of internship experience. 

The program will lead to licensure in the State of Florida. Doral College is unable to guarantee that the program will lead to licensure in any other state other than Florida.

1. Hold an AA degree OR 60 credit hours of lower division coursework (36 general education and 24 electives courses); minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher required;
2. Have completed of the following lower division prerequisites:
  • EDF 2005: Introduction to Education
  • EME 2040: Introduction to Technology for Educators or CGS 1060 Introduction to Computer Technology and Applications
  • EDP 2002: Education Psychology or DEP 2004 Human Growth and Development
    • Minimum grade of “C” in prerequisite courses required
3. Have demonstrated mastery of general knowledge by passing all subtests of the General Knowledge Test of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination to include:
  • Essay
  • English Language Skills
  • Reading
  • Mathematics
4. Complete the application process, including signing an enrollment agreement.

    *Comprehensive preparation for required exams is provided throughout the program via 240 Tutoring and other methods.

    • The student will develop curricula and teaching methods appropriate to instruct elementary schools in reading, mathematics, science, social science, art and music, and health and physical education.
    • The student will apply knowledge and skills necessary for the effective elementary school classroom management.
    • The student will employ methods to create, measure, evaluate and assess student progress.
    • The student will apply techniques to teach students with exceptionalities. 
    • The student will demonstrate the ability to teach diverse populations, including English language learners and students with exceptionalities.
    • The student will demonstrate the skills necessary to be an effective classroom teacher through student teaching opportunities.
    • The student will develop techniques to infuse character education principles in various courses.
